What Did You Miss About Pool Tables | News Article

Perhaps you may be thinking about getting your own pool table, and that is great if you are. Before you run out and buy one, however, you should make sure you?ll get good use out of it! If you are new to the game and find yourself totally enamored with the game, maybe you should wait just a little to see if you are still playing six months down the road. However, if you?re certain you want a pool table, you should then make sure you find one that?s right for you. Your table can realistically last forever and give you countless hours of pure enjoyment.

A high number of individuals refer to the cloth that covers the surface of the pool table as felt. In point of fact, that is actually false, as it is not felt at all. The billiard cloth is a particularly specialized sort of cloth is that is particularly produced for pool or billiard tables. It is fascinating to recognize that the green color of pool table cloth is figurative of the first pool tables which were literally sections of grass set on a table. In present time pool material commonly wool or a fusion of wool and nylon which is commonly referred to as, baize. The cloth weighs between 21 and 24 ounces, nevertheless you can locate 19 ounce cloth which is cheaper than the heavier weight. You will take note that pool tables have diamond markings on the rails. Those marks are there to serve as sights and exist to help in the aiming of bank shots. Each side rail consists of six of those diamond sight marks, also the shorter end rails consist of three sighting diamond markings. So when you glance at the geometry in general you will observe that those markings divide the table into identical squares. There is a really exciting game of pool called artistic pool, and in that game there are a higher number of lines displayed on the table to separate it into a grid.

The felt-covered cushions are usually constructed from vulcanized rubber -either synthetic or gum. Higher end pool tables that are constructed to create the best possible playing surface use gum rubber for the cushions that also has a layer of canvas at the top. There are many different types of pool games, some are played on traditional tables while others are on uniquely designed tables of varying materials or pockets. Pocket billiards is one of the most prominent types of billiards played in North America and the US. The pocket billiard tables have pockets, as many of you know, and there are six of them. There is a pocket located in each corner and one midway on both sides of the table.

Then we arrive at the snooker billiard game which is executed on the snooker pool table. Similar to normal pool tables, there are six pockets that are placed in the same style. The remarkable feature of snooker tables relates to the pocket objection. Sometimes in the better or more competitive snooker tournaments you will find tables with smaller pockets. The palpable motivation for doing so is to amplify the level of intricacy for the tournament play. Plus, the pocket corners are rounded on snooker tables, which is unlike the sharp corners for typical pocket billiard play. Once again, the drive is to insist on a higher degree of exactness from the snooker billiards players.

Brazilian slate is also beneficial for creating a tight tolerance, or flat surface that makes for better play. There is a massive amount of accessible data online that pertains to pool tables of all kinds. If you are studying due to you having an interest in acquiring a table, then you will benefit by attaining the most knowledge that you are able to. We kindly advise that you purchase the greatest quality you can contentedly manage to pay for. The sense for doing this is austerely due to the high amount of money, and a first-rate pool table should last you for a pretty long time.

REALTORS? Endorse Green Building Incentives | Oklahoma Real ...

Washington,
July 16, 2009

The National Association of Realtors? office building on Capitol Hill was the first newly constructed, green certified building in the District of Columbia, demonstrating NAR?s commitment to environmentally sustainable real estate development.

In testifying today before a House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee, NAR reiterated the significance of its green building and reinforced its support for energy efficiency tax credits, block grants and weatherization assistance investment.

?NAR has taken a number of important steps to raise public awareness about green buildings and their benefits in the marketplace,? said Jim Helsel, NAR treasurer and a Realtor? from Pennsylvania specializing in commercial real estate. Helsel served as chairman of NAR?s Real Property Operations Committee in 2002-03 that oversaw creation and development of the Realtor? building that was certified for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and was awarded the Silver LEED rating by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2004 when the building opened.

He noted examples of NAR ?green? support and commitment, including developing a Green designation program to offer advanced training and certification for real estate professionals; undertaking of pilot programs to ?green? local MLSs; and partnering with federal agencies and other organizations to promote green building.

?Realtors? ?leed? by example,? Helsel said, using a play on words to emphasize the building?s LEED certification. ?NAR cleaned and developed an abandoned contaminated site as the home of its D.C. headquarters. Fifty percent of the building?s energy comes from renewable resources, and 30 percent less water is used compared to other buildings of similar size,? said Helsel.

NAR research shows there is a considerable and growing market for green buildings, and that voluntary incentive-based approaches will do more to spur demand for energy efficiency than government mandates.

?We have seen more and more survey results showing a trend towards increased interest in energy efficient features,? Helsel said. ?The green building market is already responding to consumer demand. Builders are providing products that the consumer wants. And this is happening without significant involvement from the public sector.? NAR believes that as more green buildings are constructed they will demonstrate their financial viability

?The federal government plays an important role in the green effort, providing public research, as well as capital and economic incentives. It is NAR?s belief that the government should continue to have a limited role offering incentives and grants to encourage the movement toward energy efficiency. However, we do believe it is important that the government?s role continue to be incentive-based only versus mandated and overly regulated processes,? said Helsel.

?Just as NAR demonstrated by building the first ever Silver LEED rated building in the D.C. area, we are ready to continue our example and to educate our members and consumers on the need to make environmentally friendly and energy efficient building and buying decisions. We stand ready to work with Congress and the administration in this effort,? said Helsel.

The National Association of Realtors?, ?The Voice for Real Estate,? is America?s largest trade association, representing more than 1.2 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.

Gov't backs 4 more solar loans as deadline looms (AP)

WASHINGTON ? The Energy Department on Friday approved four more solar energy loan guarantees worth nearly $5 billion, hours before a controversial loan program was set to expire.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department moved to take away control of a failed solar panel maker from its management and transfer it to a court-appointed trustee.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said the department completed deals on four projects, including two that were sold late this week by Arizona-based First Solar Inc., a major solar manufacturer that had been seeking three federal loan guarantees for projects in California. The sales were announced Friday along with the loan guarantees.

The loans were approved under the same program that paid for a $528 million loan to Solyndra LLC, a now-bankrupt solar panel maker that has become a symbol for critics of the Obama administration's green energy program.

Two other solar loan guarantees worth about $1.1 billion were announced earlier this week, as the Obama administration pushed forward with the loan program despite pleas from GOP critics to halt it to avoid another Solyndra-like debacle.

Even as the loan program continued, the Justice Department took steps Friday to take away control of Solyndra from its management and transfer it to a court-appointed trustee.

In a filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, the Justice Department said it was seeking the appointment of a trustee because top Solyndra executives refused to answer questions about its finances and operations. Solyndra CEO Brian Harrison and financial chief W.G. Stover refused to testify before Congress last week, citing their Fifth Amendment protections against self-incrimination.

The Justice Department did not allege any wrongdoing but said "the inability or refusal of the corporate officers to answer material questions . establishes cause for the appointment of a trustee."

Solyndra, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early September, faces a criminal investigation by the FBI, as well as scrutiny from congressional investigators and inspectors general at two federal agencies, Energy and Treasury.

Experts said management often remains in control of a company during Chapter 11 reorganization, but in some cases a court orders the appointment of a trustee to take control. If the Justice Department motion is granted by the bankruptcy court, the trustee could make decisions about the company's operations, including whether to liquidate the firm, a Justice Department spokeswoman said.

Chu said the solar projects, which could cost taxpayers as much as $6 billion, should help the U.S. as it competes with China and other countries to develop renewable energy.

"To win the clean energy race we must invest in projects like this that fund jobs and increase the generation of clean, renewable power in the U.S.," Chu said in a statement. "Deployment of utility-scale solar power will help bring down the cost of solar and strengthen our position as a global clean energy leader."

The deals announced Friday include a $1.5 billion loan guarantee to Florida-based NextEra Energy and other investors that bought a planned 550-megawatt solar farm on federal land in Southern California from First Solar, as well as $646 million to Illinois-based Exelon Corp. for a 230-megawatt solar plant near Los Angeles. Next Era Energy Resources and GE Energy Financial Services bought the Desert Sunlight project from First Solar, while Exelon bought the Antelope Valley project. First Solar will continue to build and operate both projects.

A third project, worth $1.2 billion, will help San Jose-based SunPower Corp. build a 250-megawatt solar plant in California, while $1.4 billion will go San Francisco-based Prologis Inc. to support installation of about 750 solar rooftop panels in 28 states.

The loan program expires on Friday.

Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., chairman of a House energy subcommittee that is investigating Solyndra, called the rush to approve loans unseemly.

"In a last-minute mad dash to beat the stimulus deadline, DOE rushed out an unprecedented tidal wave of taxpayer dollars ? and the question still remains, `Where are the jobs?' `' Stearns said Friday. "American taxpayers are already on the hook for half a billion dollars for the sins of Solyndra. What surprises does DOE have in store from (Friday's) rush job?"

Asia reels from floods as storm whacks Vietnam (AP)

HANOI, Vietnam ? A tropical storm whacked into Vietnam on Friday, forcing 20,000 people to be evacuated, as the Philippines braced for a new typhoon and several Asian countries reeled under floods after some of the wildest weather this summer.

Prolonged monsoon flooding, typhoons and storms have wreaked untold havoc in the region, leaving more than 600 people dead or missing in India, Thailand, the Philippines, Japan, China, Pakistan and Vietnam in the last four months. In India alone, the damage is estimated to be worth $1 billion, with the worst-hit state of Orissa accounting for $726 million.

Several studies suggest an intensification of the Asian summer monsoon rainfall with increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations, the state-run Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology said. Still, it is not clear that this is entirely because of climate change, especially in India, it said.

After pummeling the Philippines and China this week, Typhoon Nesat was downgraded to a tropical storm just before churning into northern Vietnam on Friday afternoon with sustained wind speeds of up to 73 mph (118 kph), according to the national weather forecasting center.

Heavy rains were reported in northern and central areas. Warnings were issued for flash floods and landslides in mountainous regions, and for flooding in low-lying areas. High winds whipped through the streets of the capital, Hanoi.

The storm had flooded streets across the southern Chinese island of Hainan on Thursday, forcing some 300,000 people to flee their homes, China's official Xinhua News Agency said.

On Tuesday, Nesat bashed the Philippines, killing at least 43 people and leaving 30 others missing after causing one of the worst floods in decades in the capital, Manila.

The damage was estimated at $91 million, and preparations were already under way for Typhoon Nalgae, which was headed toward the northern Philippines. It's expected to pack winds of 87 mph (140 kph) and gusts of 105 mph (170 kph), gaining more strength before making landfall early Saturday and dumping heavy rains, forecasters said.

"The ground is still supersaturated and it cannot absorb more water," said Graciano Yumul, the Philippines' weather bureau chief. "This will just flow down to rivers and towns, and there is a big possibility that landslides, flash flooding and flooding could occur."

At least four towns in the rice-growing province of Bulacan, north of Manila, remained submerged two days after Typhoon Nesat had moved on.

Thousands sought shelter on rooftops with no food, water and electricity, while a procession of other residents waded in chest-deep water down main roads to reach dry land.

"We have nowhere to go," Celenia Espino of Calumpit township said from her home, which was filled with knee-deep murky water. "We have no means of transportation out of here."

Disaster officials in Vietnam said fish and shrimp farmers were moved to safe areas along the northern coast. Some 4,000 people, mostly the elderly, women and children, were also evacuated in three coastal districts in Nam Dinh province, said disaster official Tran Xuan Ngoc.

The storm comes on top of seasonal flooding in Vietnam's southern Mekong Delta, where eight people were killed in four provinces this week, according to the national floods and storms control department. In addition, a woman and her grandchild were killed Thursday when their home was buried by a landslide in the northern province of Yen Bai, it said.

Other parts of Asia have not been spared either.

Two typhoons hit Japan this month, leaving at least 106 people dead or missing.

In Thailand, the disaster department said 188 people have been killed and three others remain missing after a series of tropical storms hit the country since late July. Nearly 2 million people have been affected by floods and mudslides, and 122 roads are impassable.

Heavy rains in Chiang Mai, Thailand's second-biggest city, caused the Ping River to burst its banks and flooded the railway station, forcing a temporary shutdown in train service to northern Thailand. Meanwhile, 122 highways and roads nationwide are impassable.

More rainfall was forecast in northern Thailand for the weekend.

In the east Indian state of Orissa, monsoon flooding following severe drought earlier this year has killed at least 81 people since August, forcing hundreds of thousands to flee their homes. The state is asking for about $726 million in federal funds to help cope with the destruction.

India's government says 18 million people have been affected by floods in northern Uttar Pradesh state, where 168 people have been killed since June and the damage is estimated to be worth $285 million. Flooding has also hit the eastern states of Bihar and West Bengal, and Assam in the northeast.

In Pakistan, monsoon rains since early August have flooded large parts of southern Sindh province, which is still recovering from extreme flooding from a year ago. The government says 7 million people have been affected.
