NH Republicans push candidates to stand with NH (AP)

CONCORD, N.H. ? Republican presidential candidates could lose key New Hampshire endorsements and votes if they side with Nevada in the standoff over the nominating calendar, prominent New Hampshire GOP leaders warned on Wednesday.

"We're all trying to be very clear that there are consequences to not helping us protect and preserve the first in the nation primary," said Jennifer Horn, whose "We The People" group organized a news conference Wednesday featuring a coalition of Republican legislative leaders, tea party activists and key conservatives. They called on Nevada to push back its caucuses four days to Jan. 17, and asked Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and Ron Paul to join other candidates in boycotting Nevada until that happens.

"We stand here today to make it very clear to our friends in Nevada, Florida and any other state that would challenge our position that we will not go quietly into the night," Horn said. "New Hampshire's first in the nation primary is here to stay and is entirely nonnegotiable."

New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner, who has the sole power to select the state's primary date, said last week he is prepared to hold the contest in early December rather than squeeze New Hampshire between the Iowa caucuses on Jan. 3 and Nevada's caucuses on Jan. 14. New Hampshire state law requires its primaries to be held at least seven days ahead of any similar contest.

At the news conference, several coalition members said they would think twice about supporting a candidate who won't side with New Hampshire.

"I will take this issue very seriously," said state Senate President Peter Bragdon. "I don't necessarily believe in litmus tests but I can tell you the weight of this particular decision as to whether or not to support the New Hampshire primary will be heavy."

Tea party activist Andrew Hemingway went further, accusing Romney of pushing Nevada to encroach on New Hampshire's position and saying he wouldn't support any candidate who campaigns in Nevada.

"I think that's the only message they listen to: Take dollars and votes away from the candidates," he said. "I think we should all be willing to stand up and say I'm not voting for a candidate that doesn't respect the first in the nation primary. ... It's not an issue of this is a New Hampshire ego trip. This is a matter of democracy."

He and others argue that New Hampshire's status is important not just to the state but is in the nation's best interest, because the state gives lesser-known and lesser-funded candidates a chance to be heard. They urged New Hampshire residents to sign an online petition and to call candidates to urge them to join the boycott.

The three Republican members of the New Hampshire congressional delegation ? Sen. Kelly Ayotte and Reps. Charlie Bass and Frank Guinta ? also issued a statement Wednesday supporting the boycott against Nevada and urging the western state to move its date. They did not indicate whether the issue would affect any forthcoming endorsements, however.

Members of the Nevada GOP are voting on the matter at a central committee meeting in Las Vegas on Saturday, but it's unclear whether the party will stick with the Jan. 14 date. Some party members want the date moved to Jan. 17 to make New Hampshire happy. Others want to move the contest to Feb. 4 to comply with national committee rules and avoid losing any delegates during the national Republican convention in Tampa next year.

Crestron debuts free, paid mobile apps for Android devices

It's taken some time, but Crestron has finally rolled out an official version of its home automation remote control software for Android. Crestron's iOS efforts have been around and there was also an unofficial solution available from former Sling founder Blake Krikorian, but now users can choose between the free Crestron Mobile app and $100 Crestron Mobile Pro app. Judging by its iOS counterpart, the Pro version adds a number of control options including pre-set scenes and more. Of course, if you're rocking one of the company's setups then we figure you pay someone to explain this stuff to you who can probably break it down in more detail. Hit the link below to download or check out the press release after the break.

Kodak to license laser projection patents to Imax

(AP) ? Eastman Kodak Co. said Sunday that it will license thousands of patents to Imax in a deal that will supply the troubled photography company with millions of dollars.

A person familiar with the agreement, but not authorized to speak with the media, said the initial deal is worth tens of millions of dollars. The agreement includes additional payments if certain milestones are met, along with patent royalties, the person said.

Rochester, New York-based Kodak has struggled in recent years as consumers shifted to digital cameras and away from traditional film. Investor fears about its finances sent its shares tumbling earlier this month, after the company hired Jones Day, one of the country's top bankruptcy and restructuring law firms, as an advisor.

The 131-year-old company, which is credited with turning picture-taking into a hobby for the masses, insisted then that it had no intention of filing for bankruptcy protection.

Under the agreement announced Sunday, Imax Co. will have exclusive use of Kodak's laser projection technology. The Kodak patents will allow Imax to provide high-quality digital content for theater screens larger than 80 feet and domed theaters for the first time. Screens that large had previously been limited to film content, the companies said.

IMAX said it expects to introduce the new laser-projection technology by the second half of 2013.

The agreement covers about 100 patents related to laser protection technology, along with certain digital cinema rights to about 10,000 of Kodak's 11,000 total patents, said the person familiar with the deal,

The company has used its patents as a way to raise cash before. Since 2008, it's raised nearly $2 billion in licensing fees, and is hoping to sell another 1,100 digital-imaging patents. Some analysts have said that portfolio of patents could fetch $3 billion for Kodak.

After four years of losses, Kodak has said that it expects to return to profitability next year on the strength of deep investments in digital inkjet printers.

Hard-hit Obama donors still opening wallets (AP)

WASHINGTON ? President Barack Obama has shored up support from mid-level donors in some of the most economically distraught areas of the country, even as his Republican challengers have made jobs a central issue heading into next year's election.

An Associated Press analysis of Obama's fundraising since April found his supporters opened their wallets more often this election cycle in places with the worst unemployment rates. That's compared with the same period four years ago, just months before the country was thrust into a major recession.

The new numbers suggest GOP candidates will have to make a harder sell on the gravity of the nation's 9.1 percent unemployment rate, an issue that has bedeviled Obama throughout his term.

Republicans in Congress have opposed the White House on specifics, especially tax increases, in a jobs bill aimed at pulling the economy out of a nosedive.

While Obama reported this week his campaign and the Democratic party raised a combined $70 million for his re-election bid, similar fundraising numbers totals for the GOP field point to growing support for candidates promising to change the country's direction.

Republican contenders raised a total of roughly $52 million, with Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney taking the lead in drawing support from across the country.

Republican candidates have missed few chances in recent weeks to point fingers at Obama and his jobs record.

"Right now, America's in crisis," said Romney at an Oct. 11 Republican debate devoted exclusively to the economy. "You want to have someone who's smart, who has experience, who knows how the financial services sector works, who knows how to protect American jobs ? and I do. I've done it."

Among Obama's supporters, however, there has been an uptick in donations from both Democratic- and Republican-leaning counties, even as more than one in 10 people are out of work in those places.

In the Detroit area, where unemployment has exceeded 14 percent, supporters wrote hundreds of more checks ? albeit in smaller amounts when adjusting for inflation ? to Obama's campaign than the same period in 2007.

The AP's review drew upon unemployment figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and Census Bureau estimates, excluding donations from interest groups. Although campaign finance reports don't capture donors who gave less than $200 per election cycle, the donations reflect in part the attitudes among supports who give in the $200 to $2,500 range, making up nearly 40 percent of Obama's fundraising this period.

"I believe in the ideas that he has for the country," said donor Barbara Weeda, a 70-year-old retiree from Joshua Tree, Calif., home to San Bernardino county and its 13 percent jobless rate. "How else is he going to get elected than to just dig in and help as much as you can?" she said, saddened at what she sees as a lack of cooperation in Washington negotiating a jobs bill.

The AP's analysis found not only a broadening of support for Obama ? he received cash for the first time from parts of the Plains, the Rockies and the Midwest ? but also a wide appeal for top GOP contenders Romney and Perry.

Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in an email to supporters this week that more than 600,000 people donated to the campaign since July, more than the previous three-month cycle. "Getting to a million grassroots donors isn't just a huge accomplishment this early in the campaign. It's our answer to our opponents, the press, and anyone who wants to know whether the president's supporters have his back," he said.

Campaign finance reports released Friday and Saturday revealed the first complete picture of the presidential field, showing a haves and have-nots among the Republican candidates. Romney and Perry brought in more than $30 million in combined contributions; other candidates raised remarkably less, and some were mired in debt.

Still, the campaign figures didn't capture the tens of millions raised by new, outside groups known as super political action committees, which can collect unlimited amounts of money to influence elections. Obama and leading GOP candidates all have super PACs working in their favor, not counting groups like GOP-leaning American Crossroads that have raised hundreds of millions ahead of the general election.

Ramirez pleads not guilty to domestic battery

(AP) ? Former baseball star Manny Ramirez has pleaded not guilty to a domestic battery charge involving his wife.

Ramirez's attorney filed the written plea ahead of Friday's scheduled arraignment. Ramirez did not appear at the hearing. He is free on $2,500 bail.

The 2004 World Series MVP was arrested Sept. 12. His wife told investigators Ramirez slapped her, causing her head to strike a bed headboard. Ramirez has denied slapping her.

Ramirez helped lead the Boston Red Sox to the 2004 championship, ending an 86-year drought for the franchise. He also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians and Chicago White Sox.

He retired in April from the Tampa Bay Rays rather than serve a 100-game suspension after testing positive a second time for a performance-enhancing substance.
