Formula 1 fans are in for a treat ? Sky Sports has rolled out an iPad app that provides a companion experience for watching the races that includes split-screen technology to allow them to follow the action from different angles.
The app ? launched just ahead of the Formula 1 Sandander British Grand Prix this weekend ? lets Formula 1 fans select two live camera feeds simultaneously on the same screen and they can choose from several live video feeds, including a driver?s camera.
Other new features being rolled out as part of an update include TV guide integration with the ability to preview the next three programmes and set reminders as well as remote record and bespoke team pages for cricket.
The updated Sky Sports app is available for free from the App Store for Sky customers and for ?5.49 per month for non-Sky customers.
Richer viewing experiences on new media devices
?The Sky Sports for iPad app ? which has already received more than half a million downloads - is yet another example of how Sky Sports continues to innovate to bring an even richer viewing experience to customers,? the director of Sky Sports Digital Media, David Gibbs, said.
"The update to the Formula companion experience will allow customers to get even more out of our Formula 1 coverage through innovative split-screen technology, which we also plan to introduce as part of our companion app experience for other sports, including football and golf later this year.?
In related news, Sky announced yesterday that users of Android smartphones and tablets can now download content from Sky Movies and Sky Entertainment, as well as other live and on-demand content, thanks to an update to the Sky Go Android app.
