The unending Kevin Pietersen Saga leave Graeme Smith guessing ? Cricket News Update

South African skipper, Graeme Smith, on Wednesday expressed his surprise at the coverage of the ongoing fiasco regarding England all-rounder Kevin Pietersen, ahead of the third and final Test at Lord?s.

?I find it quite amazing that it's still going on and that it has reached this point. From our perspective it's just been so overboard really. I can't believe it's still carrying on,? said the Proteas skipper.

He clarified that although the issue was on everyone?s lips, the South African squad was focussed on the tour and aiming to win the series instead of getting involved in the matter.

?In our dressing room, it's something that's hardly been discussed - except the amount of time and coverage that it's getting,? Smith told.

Rubbishing reports that some South African players deliberately put KP?s allegedly derogatory texts in public domain, the South African skipper explained, ?I have personally seen nothing, I think the notion that we have tried to 'nail' Kevin or put things out in the media is just ridiculous. I have never heard such a load of rubbish.?

He said that it was disappointing for his side to be dragged into the fiasco, when the tourists had no interest in the matter.

KP wrecked havoc in England cricket after his 149-run knock in the Leeds Test, by expressing uncertainty at his international career in a controversial interview.

The all-rounder revealed that he did not enjoy a healthy relationship with some players in the national team, and also threw mud at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). This did not go down well with the board officials, costing him a place in the series finale.

However, the all-rounder has now apologized to the board officials in a last ditch effort to regain his place in the Test squad.

In a previous interview, he also expressed his desire to play for England in all three formats of the game after he had given his retirement from ODIs back in May.

With England now going to Lord?s to salvage their cherished Test status without Pietersen, they would need a collective effort by every member of the squad to overpower the mighty South Africans. ?
